Interview:
Alex M. Garnett,
writer/director,
"After the Night With Valerie"
What happens when your memory not only fails you but plays tricks on you? In writer/director Alex M. Garnett’s Austin-shot psychodrama After the Night with Valerie, aspiring photographer Layne (Sam Stinson) wakes up with no memory of the past several years. He does not know his wife Jess and his young son Winslow (Carly Christopher and her real-life son James, respectively). He last recalls being with Valerie (Boyhood’s Lorelei Linklater), an artist he believes he once dated. As Layne struggles to cope with amnesia, he slowly finds himself unable to separate reality from memory from false memory to fantasy. After the Night with Valerie will receive an in-person screening during the Lake Travis Film Festival at 3:30 p.m. June 13 at the Star Hill Ranch Theater 2 in Bee Cave. The Austin-based Alex M. Garnett previously directed 2010’s Drowning Era and 2014’s Belle. Garnett based After the Night with Valerie on his father’s sudden episode of memory loss.
