Interview:
Joseph A. Ziemba,
director,
American Genre Film Archive
The American Genre Film Archive returns to Fantastic Fest with the world premieres of the 1987 shot-on-video chiller Blood Lake and the new classroom public service announcements compilation Drug Stories! as well as a double bill of 2K preserved films by Sarah Jacobson, I Was a Teenage Serial Killer and Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore. Directed by Tom Boggs, Blood Lake pits a group of teenagers against a madman whose bloody rampage ruins their weekend party plans. A collaboration with Something Weird Video, Drug Stories! gathers together many classroom scare films from decades past that, viewed today, remain deadly earnest but unintentionally funny in execution. The Sarah Jacobson double bill pairs the late DIY filmmaker’s 1993 revenge short I Was a Teenage Serial Killer and her only feature, 1998’s coming-of-age tale Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore, about a high school senior grappling with her sexual needs and desires. I Was a Teenage Serial Killer and Mary Jane’s Not a Virgin Anymore will screen 2 p.m. Sept. 21 and 11 a.m. Sept. 26 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. Drugs Stories! will screen 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. Blood Lake, with director Tim Boggs and writer/producer/star Doug Barry in attendance, will screen 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Alamo South Lamar during Fantastic Fest. The American Genre Film Archives Mixer will be held 4:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at The Highball during Fantastic Fest. AGFA also will screen John Landis’ 1973 Schlock at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23 at the Alamo Drafthouse Mueller as part of Art House Theater Day and will present the mystery horror movie marathon Dismember the Alamo at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Alamo South Lamar.
