Interview:
Oscar Isaac,
"Inside LLewyn Davis"
Inspired by the late folk singer Dave Van Ronk’s 2005 memoir The Mayor of MacDougal Street, the Coen Brothers’ new dramedy Inside Llewyn Davis stars Oscar Isaac as the title character, a folk singer who struggles to break out of the Greenwich Village folk scene of the early 1960s. Inside Llewyn Davis also stars Justin Timberlake and Carey Mulligan as Davis’ fellow folk singers, John Goodman as a jazz musician, and F. Murray Abraham as the manager Davis wants to impress. Isaac previously appeared in The Nativity Story, Body of Lies, Robin Hood, Sucker Punch, and Drive. While Isaac contributed to the soundtrack of Sucker Punch, Inside Llewyn Davis required him to sing and play the guitar live on set. Inside Llewyn Davis also marks the Coen Brothers’ latest collaboration with famed musician and songwriter T-Bone Burnett, who previously provided the music for O Brother, Where Art Thou? Inside Llewyn Davis opened Dec. 20 in Austin. Oscar Isaac discussed Inside Llewyn Davis after the film received its local premiere at this year’s Austin Film Festival.
