Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water—again—comes Sweetheart. Directed by J.D. Dillard, the Blumhouse aquatic creature feature finds Kiersey Clemons’s Jen stranded on a desert island after a boating accident. But Jen is not alone. The waters surrounding the island is inhabited by a sea creature of unknown origin that comes ashore at night. Sweetheart also stars Emory Cohen as Jen’s boyfriend Lucas and Hanna Mangan Lawrence as their friend Mia. Sweetheart, which premiered locally during this year’s Fantastic Fest, will be available digitally on Oct. 22. J.D. Dillard previously directed 2017’s Sleight and is attached to directed his race-driven thriller Mastering Your Past as well as a remake of The Fly.
