Interview:
Luke Korem,
director,
"Dealt"
Directed by the Austin-based Luke Korem, the documentary Dealt chronicles the life and career of close-up card magician Richard Turner. A self-described “card mechanic,” Turner learned his craft as a young man while fighting an eye disease that severely debilitated his sight. Even after losing his sight as an adult, Turner fought against being labelled a magician who was blind; instead, he went to extremes to prove that being sight impaired did not define him or have any connection to with his talents and abilities. Luke Korem previously directed the documentary Lord Montagu. Dealt will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 11:15 a.m. March 13 at the Alamo Ritz, 2:30 p.m. March 14 at the Alamo South Lamar, and 9:30 p.m. March 16 at the Alamo South Lamar.
