co-writer/director,
"Close"
Co-written and directed by Lukas Dhont, the Belgian drama Close focuses on the intimate friendship between two 13-year-old boys, Léo (Eden Dambrine) and Rémi (Gustav De Waele). Their relationship is put to the test when they start middle school and some of their classmates assume they are gay. They begin to experience homophobia, which prompts Léo to change the way he interacts with an increasingly concerned Rémi. Nominated for an Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, Close opened Feb. 3 in Austin theaters. Director Lukas Dhont previously collaborated with his Close co-screenwriter Angelo Tijssens on 2018’s Girl, a coming-of-age drama inspired by the obstacles faced by transgender teenage girl Nora Monsecour to become a professional ballerina. Aired: Jan. 24, 2023. Web sites: https://a24films.com/films/close |
