Interview:
Jackson Rathbone,
"The Wall of Mexico"
In the SXSW Film Festival allegorical drama The Wall of Mexico, Austin-based actor Jackson Rathbone’s handyman Don comes under the spell of the two daughters of his employers, a wealthy Mexican-American couple with a tenuous relationship with the nearby town of Winfield. The Aristas’ daughters, Tania and Ximena, enjoy a wild and crazy party lifestyle that Don wants to experience—especially with Tania—even if it means putting his job at risk. Everything starts to change when Don’s tasked with keeping guard of the well that supplies the family with their drinking water. Don quickly realizes that the well is the source of contention between the Aristas and the residents of Winfield but he does not know what makes the well water so special. Then family patriarch Henry Arista makes the controversial decision to build a wall around his estate. The Wall of Mexico costars Marisol Sacramento as Tania, Carmela Zumbado as Ximena, Esai Morales as Henry Arista, and Alex Meneses as his wife Monica. The Wall of Mexico is directed by Zachary Cotler and Magdalena Zyzak, whose film Maya Darde screened at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival under the title A Critically Endangered Species. The Wall of Mexico will screen during this year’s SXSW Film Festival at 5:30 p.m. March 8, 9 p.m. March 10 at the Alamo South Lamar, and 10:45 a.m. March 15 at the Alamo Ritz.
