"Even with Their Nails:
Women Filmmakers in Nicaragua"
Directed by the Round Rock-based Tania Romero, the short documentary Even with Their Nails: Women Filmmakers in Nicaragua chronicles the contributions women filmmakers made to the Nicaraguan national film project INCINE, which was established in the wake of the 1979 Sandinista Revolution. Even with Their Nails examines the barriers the women filmmakers had to overcome in order to have their voices heard. The documentary also details how these filmmakers continued to pursue their art following the government’s decision to end funding INCINE in 1989. Even with Their Nails: Women Filmmakers in Nicaragua, which will screen 4 p.m. May 6 at the Santa Cruz Theater during the Cine La Americas International Film Festival.
