Interview:
Nikhil Nagesh Bhat,
writer/director,
"Kill"
When he was a student in the 1990s, Indian filmmaker Nikhil Nagesh Bhat fell asleep at night on a passenger train and woke up in the morning to learn that bandits had robbed the adjacent first class coaches. While Bhat was not robbed or harmed, the incident stayed with him for years until it finally manifested itself in the Hindi-language contained action thriller Kill. In true Die Hard fashion, two Indian Armed Forces commandos—Amrit (Lakshya) and Viresh (Abhishek Chauhan)—find themselves going up against a gang of bandits on a passenger train bound for New Delhi. Amrit’s main priority is protecting his girlfriend Tulika (Tanya Maniktala). But this is task made all the more complicated when the bandits plot to take hostage and hold for ransom Tulika’s father, the rich and powerful owner of a transportation company. Kill also stars Ashish Vidyarthi as the bandit leader Beni and Raghav Juyal as Beni’s charming but psychotic son Fani. Kill, which premiered locally during this year’s Fantastic Fest, opened July 4 in theaters. Kill writer/director Nikhil Nagesh Bhat previously directed Saluun, Long Live Brij Mohan, Hurdang, and the upcoming Apurva. An English-language remake of Kill is currently being developed by John Wick director Chad Stahelski. Aired: July 3, 2024. Web site: https://www.lionsgate.com/movies/kill |
