Interview:
Justin Marks,
screenwriter,
"The Jungle Book"
Written by part-time Austinite Justin Marks, Disney’s live-action version of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book finds man-cub Mowgli’s peaceful existence in an Indian jungle threatened by the fearsome Bengal tiger Shere Khan. Iron Man’s Jon Favreau directs Disney’s latest live-action retelling of one of its animated classics. The cast is led by newcomer Neel Sethi as Mowgli and features the voice talents of Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, Scarlett Johansson as Kaa, Idris Elba as Shere Khan, Christopher Walken as King Louis, and Bill Murray as Baloo. The Jungle Book opened the weekend of April 15 to a staggering $103 million and has already made $528 million worldwide through April 24. No wonder Disney wants to bring back director Jon Favreau and screenwriter Justin Marks for a planned sequel. Justin Marks previously wrote 2009’s Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. He is currently working on the Starz TV series Counterpart and the script for Top Gun 2.
