Art Horror Series
The Austin Film Society devotes its July to two series that couldn’t be more different: The Inexplicably Yours: Maurice Pialat series focuses on the work of the late French realist while the Art Horror series offers scares, suspense and mystery from the likes of David Lynch and Donald Cammell. The Inexplicably Yours: Maurice Pialat series begins 7:30 pm. July 7 at the AFS Cinema with We Won’t Grow Old Together. It continues with Loulou on July 14, A Nos Amours on July 21, and Sous le Soleil de Satan (Under the Sun of Satan) on July 28. The Art Horror series begins 8 pm. July 8 at the AFS Cinema with the Japanese animated psychosexual character study Belladonna of Sadness and continues with Willard Huyck and Gloria Katz’s Messiah Evil on July 15, Roman Polanski’s Repulsion on July 22, David Lynch’s Eraserhead on July 29, and Donald Cammell’s rarely seen White of the Eye on Aug. 5. Also in July, the Austin Film Society will screen the new release The Fits (July 22 and 24) and host the local premiere of David Lowery's remake of Pete's Dragon (July 31 at the Paramount Theatre).
