Co-written and produced by The Grey’s Joe Carnahan, El Chicano introduces the world to a new Latino masked crusader charged with keeping L.A. streets free from crime. Raul Castillo stars as L.A.PD. Detective Diego Hernandez, whose investigation into his brother’s death lands him in the crosshairs of feuding crime organizations. A startling discovery leads Hernandez to inherit the role of El Chicano, a seemingly mythical crimefighter who has not been active in decades but whose very mention still strikes fear in the heart of men. George Lopez costars in El Chicano as Captain Gomez, one of the few L.A.P.D. officers Hernandez trusts with his life.El Chicano premiered locally during last year’s Austin Film Festival and opened May 3. Joe Carnahan co-wrote El Chicano with first-time director Ben Hernandez Bray, who served as a stunt coordinator on the Joe Carnahan-directed Smokin’ Aces, The A-Team, The Grey, and Stretch. Joe Carnahan also directed Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane, Narc, and the upcoming Boss Level with Mel Gibson, Naomi Watts, and frequent collaborator Frank Grillo. He also is one of the credited screenwriters of the 2018 remake of Death Wish. Joe Carnahan will reunite with Frank Grillo for their upcoming remake of Gareth Evans’ critically acclaimed Indonesian thriller The Raid.
