Interview:
Joseph A. Ziemba,
Bleeding Skull! Video co-founder,
"Jungle Trap"
Shot on video in 1990 by cult filmmaker James Bryan, the exploitation thriller Jungle Trap remained unfinished for more than 25 years until Joseph A. Ziemba and his colleagues at the Austin-based Bleeding Skull! Video discovered its existence and persuaded the Texas-based director to turn over the footage to them so they complete his last film. Austin’s Don Swaynos edited the film while Ziemba reconstructed and remastered the audio and composed the score with his and Annie Choi’s band, Taken by Savages. Bleeding Skull’s Zach Carlson also contributed to the project. Bryan, who is best known for directing Don’t Go Into the Woods, will watch the finished Jungle Trap for the first time when it screens 2:20 p.m. Sept. 24 during Fantastic Fest at the Alamo South Lamar. Joseph A. Ziemba founded the site http://bleedingskull.com, co-wrote the book “BLEEDING SKULL! A 1980s Trash-Horror Odyssey,” and co-founded Bleeding Skull! Video, which previously distributed James Bryan’s 1987 film Run Coyote Run. He also serves as the host of the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz’s Terror Tuesdays. In his capacity as the director of the American Genre Archive Film, Ziemba collaborated with Something Weird Video! on the 4K restoration of The Zodiac Killer, which will screen 5:15 p.m. Sept. 25 and 5:45 p.m. Sept. 28 during Fantastic Fest at the Alamo South Lamar. Editor Don Swaynos previously edited Pit Stop, Love & Air Sex, Saturday Morning Mystery, and The Sideways Light. He also directed Pictures of Superheroes. Don Swanyos joins Joseph A. Ziemba during this interview.
