Interview:
Ronald D. Moore,
creator/executive producer,
"Battlestar Galactica"
One of the highlights of this year’s ATX TV Festival will be the Battlestar Galactica Reunion that will be held 7 p.m. June 10 at the Paramount Theatre. Creator/executive producer of the 2000s reboot of the 1970s sci-fi series, Ronald D. Moore will participate in the reunion along with cast members Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, James Callis, and Michael Trucco. Moore’s reboot began as a three-hour Sci-Fi Channel miniseries that led to a 4-season TV show and a short-lived prequel series, Caprica. Battlestar Galactica immediately distinguished itself from its predecessor by telling a politically charged tale of a war between humanity and Cylons with post-9/11 undertones. Edward James Olmos inherited the role of Commander William Adama from Lorne Greene while Jamie Barber starred as his estranged son, Lee “Apollo” Adama. Moore cast Katee Sackhoff as pilot Starbuck, a role originated by Dirk Benedict. He also recruited Richard Hatch, Apollo on the original show, as Tom Zarek, the Vice President of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol in a recurring role. Before Battlestar Galactica, Moore worked on Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager; he is now the showrunner of Outlander.
