Interview:
Brian Tee,
"Expats"
Based on the 2016 novel “The Expatriates” by Janice Y. K. Lee, the 6-episode miniseries Expats focuses on the tragedy that directly or indirectly impacts a group of Americans living and/or working in Hong Kong during the 2014 Umbrella Movement protests. The miniseries tracks the troubled marriages of two expat couples (Nicole Kidman and Brian Tee; Jack Huston and Sarayu Blue) and compares and contrasts their lives against those of their seemingly devoted foreign domestic helpers. Ji-young Yoo costars as Mercy, a young woman who inadvertently triggers a heart-wrenching chain of events. The first two episodes of Expats premiered Jan. 25, with each of the remaining four episodes premiering weekly on Thursdays. Lulu Wang, who previously directed The Farewell and Posthumous, created and directed Expats. Brian Tee plays Clarke, a businessman who must maintain his composure for his family's sake as he and his wife Margaret (Kidman) cope with an unexpected loss. Tee previously starred in the NBC series Chicago MD and appeared in the films The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, The Wolverine, Jurassic World, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.
