Interview:
Bria Vinaite,
"The Florida Project"
Instagrammer Bria Vinaite thought she was being catfished when she received a DM from Tangerine writer/director Sean Baker asking her to audition for his new drama, The Florida Project. Vinaite, who owns a marijuana-themed clothing line, wasn’t convinced the offer was real until she flew up to Orlando and met with Baker. Now the newcomer is earning rave reviews as the loving but neglectful mother Halley in The Florida Project, a story about the joys and pains of childhood that’s set against Orlando’s welfare-hotel culture. Baker focuses on Halley’s struggles to raise her rebellious 6-year-old daughter Moonee, who is played by Brooklynn Prince, while she does everything she can to pay for food and the cost to rent a room every month at The Magic Castle. The cast also includes Valeria Cotton and Christopher Rivera as Moonee’s friends Jancey and Scooty, respectively. Willem Dafoe also delivers his most humane and relatable performance as The Magic Castle’s harried but protective manager Bobby. The Florida Project opened Oct. 13 in Austin Aired: Oct. 12, 2017 Web sites: http://floridaproject.movie https://www.facebook.com/TheFloridaProject |
