Interview:
Brit Marling,
"The Keeping Room"
Written by Julia Hart, the revisionist Civil War-era western The Keeping Room pits two sisters and their slave against two Union soldiers intent on breaking into their home and raping and killing them. Brit Marling and Hailee Steinfeld play sisters Augusta and Louise, respectively, Muna Otaru their slave Mad, and Sam Worthington and Kyle Soller the Union soldiers. Directed by Harry Brown's Daniel Barber, The Keeping Room represents the first produced screenplay by Julia Hart, the daughter of Hook and Contact screenwriter Jim Hart. Brit Marling previously played in Another Earth, Sound of My Voice, and The East, and she will soon be seen in the 2016 Netflix series The OA. The Keeping Room premiered locally during this year's Fantastic Fest; the Austin-based Drafthouse FIlms opened The Keeping Room on Oct. 2. Screenwriter Julia Hart joins Brit Marling during this interview.
