Presented by the Austin Film Society, the 2017 Texas Film Awards will be held 6 p.m. March 9 at the Austin Studios with honorees Shirley MacLaine, director Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter, Mud, Loving), rising star Tye Sheridan (Mud, Joe), producer Sarah Green (Tree of Life, Mud, Loving, the upcoming Song to Song), and documentary filmmaker Hector Galan (Accordion Dreams, Los Lonely Boys: Cottonfields and Crossroads, Children of Giant) in attendance. The Austin Film Society is also in the midst of an adding a second screen to its AFS Cinema, with the theater scheduled to reopen in May. Austin Film Society screenings are being held at various venues across the city, with founder Richard Linklater hosting a 30th anniversary screening of The Last Emperor at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Paramount Theater.
