Representing the directorial debut of Lado Kvataniya, the Russian crime thriller The Execution follows the efforts of various Soviet-era police agencies to catch a serial killer over the course of a decade. In the early 1980s, newly promoted police chief Issa Valentinovich (Nikoloz Tavadze) adopts modern crime-solving techniques to bring the killer to justice. Years after the arrested and conviction of Valentinovich's primary suspect, a survivor of a vicious attack comes forward with information that suggesst the real serial killer is at still large and terrorizing a Soviet Union on the brink of collapse. The Execution premiered locally during this year's Fantastic Fest 2021 and is available to stream during Fantastic Fest's FF @ Home on Sept. 30 for a 48-hour screening window. Posted: Sept. 30, 2021.
