Interview:
Gabe Klinger, director,
"Double Play: James Benning
and Richard Linklater"
![]() Director Gabe Klinger’s documentary Double Play: James Benning and Richard Linklater examines the friendship between the two filmmakers that has endured for close to three decades. Linklater is known the world over for Slacker, the Before trilogy, and Boyhood; Benning is a visual artist whose experimental films unfold as living portraits and landscapes. For example, Twenty Cigarettes captures 10 men and 10 women smoking as a way to capture aspects of each subject’s personality. His other films include RR, 13 Lakes, and the One Way Boogie Woogie films. Double Play enjoyed its Austin premiere during this year's SXSW Film Festival. The Austin Film Society will screen Double Play at 8 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Marchesa Hall & Theatre.
