Interview:
Tyler Savage,
co-writer/director,
"Blinders"
Former Austinite Tyler Savage’s social media cautionary thriller Blinders finds school teacher Andy (Vincent Van Horn) moving from Austin to Los Angeles following a devastating breakup with his long-term girlfriend. Andy not only quickly lands work as a private tutor but he meets and enters into a relationship with location scout Sam (Tiger Tail's Christine Ko). All seems to be going well in Los Angeles for Andy until he meets psychotic ride-share driver Roger (Michael Lee Joplin). Furious that Andy rejects his friendship, Roger seeks revenge against Andy by stealing his identity and using his social media accounts to ruin his life. Blinders will stream during the 2020 virtual Austin Film Festival, which runs Oct. 22-29. Tyler Savage is a former Austinite who worked as an assistant for Terrence Malick and served as an associate producer on Malick’s films Knight of Cups, Voyage of Time: Life's Journey, and Song to Song. Savage made his directorial debut with the 2017 thriller Inheritance, which he wrote with his Blinders co-writer Dash Hawkins. California native Savage maintains his Texas ties by casting fellow former Austinites Vincent Van Horn and Michael Lee Joplin as Blinders' male leads.
