"Boyhood"
Shot over the course of 12 years in Austin, Houston and other Texas locations, writer/director Richard Linklater’s coming-of-age tale Boyhood traces the turbulent early life of Ellar Coltrane’s Mason from age 6 through 18. Coltrane and co-star Lorelei Linklater age from kids to preteens to teenagers over the course of the film’s 166 minutes. Lorelei Linklater, who is writer/director Richard Linklater’s daughter, stars as Mason’s older sister Olivia. Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette play the siblings’ divorced parents. Austinite Ellar Coltrane appeared with Patricia Arquette in Richard Linklater’s 2006 drama Fast Food Nation. Arquette is best known for her roles in True Romance, Ed Wood, Flirting With Disaster, Lost Highway, Stigmata, Human Nature, Holes, and the TV series Medium. Boyhood opens today at the Violet Crown. Ellar Coltrane joins Patricia Arquette during this interview.
