Interview:
Steve Mims, writer/director,
"Arlo & Julie"
Would you freak out if you began to receive jigsaw puzzle pieces every day in the mail? The young couple played by Alex Dobrenko and Ashley Spillers in writer/director Steve Mims’ SXSW Film Festival entry Arlo & Julie find it amusing at it first. But they quickly become obsessed with completing the jigsaw puzzle. Moreover, they wonder who is sending them the jigsaw puzzle pieces and how, if at all, it relates to a valuable painting that Julie owns. Along with Arlo & Julie producer Joe Bailey Jr., University of Texas RTF lecturer Steve Mims directed the acclaimed documentary Incendiary: The Willingham Case, which chronicled the efforts to show how bad science led to the arrest of Corsicana resident Todd Willingham of the 1991 arson murders of his three young daughters. Alex Dobrenko and Ashley Spillers previously starred together in the 2012 short film Hearts of Napalm. The rest of the cast in this Austin-made comedy includes Mallory Culbert, Chris Doubek, and Zero Charisma’s Sam Eidson. Arlo & Julie will screen during the SXSW Film Festival at 2 p.m. March 10 at the Topfer Theatre at ZACH, 7 p.m. March 11 at the Alamo Village, 4:30 p.m. March 12 at the Marchesa Hall and Theatre, and 2 p.m. March 13 at the Alamo Village.
