Interview:
Peter Hall,
SXSW Film & TV Festival Programmer,
Midnighters
Midnighters may no longer start during the wee hours of the morning during the SXSW Film & TV Festival but that does not make the eight films in the festival’s most highly anticipated program any less warped or wicked. This year’s Midnighters comprised of the sequel The Wrath of Becky, the prequel Furies, the world premieres of Brooklyn 45, It Lives Inside, and Late Night With the Devil, the North American premiere of Aberrance, the international premiere of Monolith, and the Texas premiere of the A24 chiller Talk to Me. SXSW’s commitment to genre cinema extends beyond the Midnighters, with Evil Dead Rise, The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster, Appendage, Deadland, Hail Mary, Raging Grace, and creator James Ward Byrkit’s anthology TV series Shatter Belt all receiving their world premieres during this year’s festival. The SXSW Film & TV Festival runs March 10-18 at various Austin venues. This year’s Midnighters was overseen by SXSW Film & TV Festival programmer Peter Hall, who recently published with friend and collaborator Paul Gandersman their debut novel “The Dead Friends Society,” a slasher adapted from their unproduced screenplay of the same name. Aired: February 28, 2023. Web sites: https://www.sxsw.com/festivals/film/ |
