Interview:
Jim Cummings,
writer/director/star,
"Thunder Road"
![]() Inspired by the Bruce Springsteen anthem of the same name, the Austin-shot Thunder Road stars writer/director Jim Cummings as a police officer suffering through an emotional breakdown. In the midst of a divorce, Officer Jim Arnaud struggles to cope with his mother's passing while fighting a contentious custody battle for his preteen daughter, Crystal (Austin native Kendal Farr, making her film debut). This dramedy, an expansion of Jim Cummings' 2016 Sundance Film Festival award-winning short, won this year's SXSW Grand Jury Award. The self-distributed Thunder Road opens Oct. 12 at the Alamo South Lamar and Oct. 19 at the AFS Cinema in advance of its Oct. 30 iTunes release. Jim Cummings previously directed 2010's No Floodwall Here. Thunder Road's cast includes such current and past Austin-based actors as Macon Blair, Bill Wise, Frank Mosley, and Chris Doubek. Producer Zach Parker will participate in Q&As after the 7:50 p.m. and 9:10 p.m. Oct. 12 showings of Thunder Road at the Alamo South Lamar.
