Bullock Texas State History Museum
Long considered one of the earliest classics to be shot in and around Austin, director Eagle Pennell’s 1978 drama The Whole Shootin’ Match stars Lou Perryman and Sonny Carl Davis as two Central Texas buddies out to abandon their blue-collar existence. A digitally restored print of Pennell’s lost masterpiece will screen 7 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Bullock Texas State History Museum as part of its Texas Focus series. Sonny Carl Davis will participate in a post-screening Q&A. On Jan. 14, the museum also will screen Jonathan Demme Presents Made in Texas, a package of six Austin-short films from the late 1970s and 190s that is presented by Jonathan Demme and restored under the guidance of Austin Chronicle co-founder Louis Black.
