"Overlord"
Produced by J.J. Abrams, the World War II-set chiller Overlord pits a squad of U.S. paratroopers against monstrous Nazi creations on the eve of D-Day. The paratroopers—including Wyatt Russell, Jovan Adepo, John Magaro, and Iain De Caestecker—are tasked with destroying a German radio tower in advance of the Normany landings. The tower, though, is located within a French church where Nazi scientists conduct experiments in a bid to transforms human subjects into the perfect super soldier. Pilou Asbæk, of The Great Wall and the 2017 remake of Ghost in the Shell, plays Overlord’s villain, SS Hauptsturmführer Capt. Wafner. The paratroopers recruit French villager Chloe (newcomer Mathilde Ollivier) in their bid to infiltrate the castle and destroy both the radio tower and the laboratory. Overlord, which premiered locally during this year’s Fantastic Fest, is now in theaters. Julius Avery previously directed Son of a Gun and is currently attached to a Flash Gordon reboot.
