The Art of Maurice Schmidt"
Commissioned by the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, the documentary short Majesty and Tenderness: The Art of Maurice Schmidt seeks to bring to greater prominence the New Braunfels-born figurative artist who gas created more than 3,000 works of art over the course of six decades. Director Vanessa Reiser and producer Ben Livingston, both Austin-based filmmakers, focus on how Maurice Schmidt’s Texas roots, deep Jewish faith, and passion for the environment have informed and shaped his art and his worldview. Majesty and Tenderness: The Art of Maurice Schmidt will screen at 4 p.m. Nov. 13 at the Galaxy Theatres Austin as part of the Austin Jewish Film Festival’s Truth and Drama shorts program. It is also available to stream during the Austin Jewish Film Festival from Nov 11-16. The documentary can also be seen through March 20 at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts in conjunction with the exhibition “Majesty and Tenderness: The Art of Maurice Schmidt.” Director Vanessa Reiser is currently working on a documentary about the Zilker neighborhood she and artist Ben Livingston both call home.
