Community Cinema
Dedicated to assisting Austin’s homeless and working poor, Mobile Loaves & Fishes opens the doors to its 27-acre Community First! Village every Friday evening for public screenings at its Community Cinema. Programmed by director Ed Travis, the amphitheater can accommodate up to 500 people who want to attend screenings of past and recent hits. In May, Community Cinema hosted screenings of films written by the late Austin-based script doctor Warren Kaaren. In June, as part of its Oscars Month, Community Cinema will screen Hidden Figures at 7:30 p.m. June 16, Moana on June 23, and Hell or High Water on June 30. In July, Community Cinema will celebrate the work of Will Smith with Independence Day on July 7, I Am Legend on July 14, The Pursuit of Happyness, and Men in Black on July 28. As well as serving as the director of Community Cinema, Ed Travis also is the co-founder and editor in chief of the film website Cinapse.co.
