Interview:
Andrew Bujalski,
writer/director,
"There, There"
Austin-based writer/director Andrew Bujalski’s experimental drama There, There follows a chain of real and imaginary conversations conducted by varying pairs of friends, family members, lovers, and strangers. A product of the COVID-19 lockdown and its resulting safety protocols, but not about the pandemic, There, There required Bujalski to shoot each conversation with paired cast members in isolation in different locations, often with the actors not knowing who would be their scene partner. He also directed the actors offsite via video. The cast includes Jason Schwartzman, Lili Taylor, Fear the Walking Dead’s Lennie James, and Good Boys and Shiva Baby’s Molly Gordon. There, There opens Nov. 25 at the AFS Cinema. Andrew Bujalski and select cast members will participate in post-screening Q&As after the 7:30 p.m. showing on Nov. 25 and the 4 p.m. showing on Nov. 26. There, There is also available for digital and VOD viewing. The Austin-based Andrew Bujalski previously directed Support the Girls, Results, Computer Chess, Beeswax, People's Houses, Mutual Appreciation, and Funny Ha Ha. He also co-wrote the Disney+ live-action version of Lady and the Tramp. Aired: Nov. 22, 2022.
