"The Big Spoon"
In writer/director Carlyn Hudson’s Austin-shot The Big Spoon, a teacher finds herself growing frustrated with her writer boyfriend after he temporarily sublets a house so he can work on his new play in peace. While Mallory (The Big Spoon co-writer Mallory Culbert) begins to wonder whether she should be Ben (Happy Endings’ Zachary Knighton), her best friend Elise (Isabelle McNally) has fallen head over heels in love with Lionel (Agustin Silva), a Chilean musician who has moved into Mallory’s house. The Big Spoon marks the directorial debut of Carlyn Hudson, who relocated from Austin to L.A. after making this anti-romcom. Austin-based Mallory Culbert co-wrote the 2011 comedy Days of Delusion and appeared in Arlo & Julie, Saturday Morning Mystery, and Slacker 2011. The Big Spoon will screen 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at the Alamo Drafthouse Village and 6 pm. Sunday, Oct. 16 at the Rollins Theatre during the Austin Film Festival. Mallory Culbert joins Carlyn Hudson during this interview.
