Interview:
William F. Reed,
writer/director,
"The Good Hearts Club"
Inspired by his experiences working as a game designer at the now-closed Lockout Austin, writer/director William F. Reed’s ensemble comedy The Good Hearts Club chronicles the efforts undertaken by employees at an escape game to prevent a corporate takeover of the Mom-and-Pop business. Tyler Mann stars as Matt, whose first day at Escape Room Austin is marked by the announcement that its owners can no longer afford to keep open the doors. So Matt, and the co-workers he quickly bonds with, must design and build a new game so fun and innovative that it draws the crowds needed to thwart a hostile takeover by its next-door rival. The Good Hearts Club’s cast also includes Matt Arbo and Jane Schwartz as Escape Room Austin’s divorced owners and Ellis Aych, Tiara Alese Bynum, Allison Day, Donato De Luca, Cliff Miller, and Darby Wirt as Matt’s co-workers. Filmed at Lockout Austin in 2020 during the pandemic, The Good Hearts Club will screen at 2:45 pm Sept. 18 at the Church at Star Hill Ranch in Bee Cave during the Lake Travis Film Festival. The Austin-based William F. Reed makes his feature film directorial debut with The Good Hearts Club.
