Interview:
Macon Blair,
co-writer,
"Small Crimes"
In the Netflix thriller Small Crimes, disgraced ex-cop Joe Denton (Game of Thrones' Nikolaj Coster-Walda) walks out of prison determined to put his corrupt past behind him. That’s easier said than done. Hours after becoming a free man, Joe becomes embroiled in a plot to kill a dying mobster who may or may not be confessing his sins to a local prosecutor. Small Crimes is directed by Cheap Thrills’ Evan Katz. He co-wrote the script with Macon Blair, the Austin-based actor and writer/director of the Netflix black comedy I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore, which won the Grand Jury Prize at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Blair, who will next direct the Tracy Morgan-Luke Wilson comedy The Shitheads, appears in a brief but pivotal role in Small Crimes as one of the few figures from Joe’s past who doesn’t have an ax to grind with him. Small Crimes also stars Robert Forester and Jacki Weaver as Joe’s parents; Gary Cole as Joe’s ex-partner; Molly Parker as the nurse to the dying mobster; and Pat Healy as the mobster’s son, a chip off the old block who doesn’t mind entertaining enemies in the torture chamber he calls the Playroom. Small Crimes, which premiered during this year’s SXSW Film Festival, debuted April 28 on Netflix. Nikolaj Coster-Walda and co-writer/director Evan Katz join co-writer Macon Blair during this interview. Aired: April 27, 2017 Web site: https://www.netflix.com/ |
