"Drawing the Motion Picture:
Production Art & Storyboards"
The Drawing the Motion Picture: Production Art & Storyboards exhibition runs through July 16 at the Harry Ransom Center. Exhibit items mostly from the center’s collection—including concept sketches and paintings, notebooks, pictorial and annotated scripts, and studio memos and filmmaker correspondence—stress the importance of production art and storyboards to the filmmaking process over the course of the past century. The exhibition takes a behind-the-scenes look at the productions of Apollo 13, Duel in the Sun, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, Lawrence of Arabia, Malcolm X, Rebecca, The Red Shoes, Spellbound, West Side Story, and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Robert De Niro, whose early archive of scripts, letters, and costumes were acquired by the center in 2006, is represented by two collaborations with director Martin Scorsese, Raging Bull and the 1991 remake of Cape Fear. Held in conjunction with the exhibition, the Paramount Summer Classic Film Series’ Harry Ransom Center: Drawing the Motion Picture program features Raging Bull at 7:30 p.m. July 10, Malcolm X at 7 p.m. July 11, and The Red Shoes at 7:30 p.m. July 12 at the Paramount Theatre. Aired: June 28, 2023. Web sites: https://www.hrc.utexas.edu/exhibitions/2023/drawing-the-motion-picture/ https://www.austintheatre.org/film/classic-film-series/ |
