"City On a Hill"
Set against the “Boston Miracle” of the 1990s, the new Showtime series City on a Hill finds morally corrupt FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon) and by-the-book Assistant District Attorney Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) forming an initially uneasy alliance to bring to an end a series of armored car robberies masterminded by Charlestown criminal Frankie Ryan (Jonathan Tucker). Also known as Operation Ceasefire, the “Boston Miracle” was a program launched in the early 1990s by city, county and state law enforcement agencies to combat youth gun violence. In addition, City On a Hill’s exploration of racism in Boston is informed by the 1989 murder of the pregnant Carol DiMaiti by her husband Charles "Chuck" Stuart, who initially told police that DiMaiti was killed by an African-American man. City On a Hill premiered locally during this year’s ATX Television Festival and debuted June 16 on Showtime. New episodes air 8 p.m. central Sundays on Showtime.Chuck McLean created City On a Hill based on an original idea by Ben Affleck and serves as an executive producer alongside Jennifer Todd, the president of Affleck and Matt Damon’s Pearl Street Films. St. Elsewhere writer, Homicide: Life on the Street showrunner, and Oz creator Tom Fontana serves as City On a Hill’s showrunner.
