Interview:
Simon Rumley,
writer/director,
"Fashionista"
Clothes unmake the woman in Fashionista, a psychosexual drama that represents the second film that Red, White and Blue’s Simon Rumley has directed in Austin. The British writer/director’s Red, White and Blue star Amanda Fuller plays April, the seemingly down-to-earth married co-owner of an Austin vintage clothing store. The jealously April feels when her husband Eric (he Devil’s Candy’s Ethan Embry) gets overly friendly with their new employee drives such a wedge between them that April starts to look elsewhere for her emotional and physical needs. Worse, April’s love of clothes becomes a full-on obsession when she meets the rich but manipulative Randall (Eric Balfour). Randall seduces April with designer clothing but the cost is the complete abandonment of all inhibitions if she is to remain by Randall’s side. Not even Eric can stop April from succumbing to the temptations that is offered to her by Randall. Fashionista screens 9:15 p.m. Feb. 9 and 9:45 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Alamo Village. It also is available Feb. 8 for digital and VOD viewing. Fashionista premiered locally during the 2016 Fantastic Fest and counts the festival’s co-founder Tim League among its executive producers. Fashionista writer/director Simon Rumley’s other films include The Living and the Dead and Johnny Frank Garrett’s Last Word as well as the upcoming Crowhurst and Once Upon a Time in London.
