Interview: John Sheehan,
writer/director,
"For Serious"
Isn’t sympathy supposed to be hard to come by for an unemployed lawyer? In writer/director John Sheehan’s For Serious, though, Jason Newman’s likeable but passive Pete finds himself surrounded by friends and family who rally to his side when he’s let go by a corporate law firm. Instead of rushing to find a job, Pete decides to pursue his dream of becoming a filmmaker. Serving as his muse: Becca, an actress he falls hard for but doesn’t know how to woo. This satire about independent filmmaking costars Erica Heidepriem as Becca, Johnny Walter as Pete’s fast-talking partner-in-crime Drew, Jordan Fox as Pete’s gamer brother Keith, and David Lee Hess as pretentious filmmaker and artist Chaz. Writer/director John Sheehan and producer Andrew Gajkowski mined their own experiences in corporate law to For Serious, which will screen 7 p.m. April 30 at the Galaxy Highland Theater as part of the Austin Film Festival’s Austin Premiere series.Producer Andrew Gajkowski joins writer/director John Sheehan during this interview.
