Interview:
David Modigliani,
director,
"Running With Beto"
Directed by Austenite David Modigliani, the documentary Running With Beto chronicles Democrat Beto O’Rourke’s efforts to unseat incumbent Republican Ted Cruz during the 2018 U.S. Senate election in Texas. Modigliani travels across the Lone Star State with the then-Congressman from El Paso as he undertakes a grassroot campaign that unexpectedly receives significant national media attention and turns O’Rourke into a media darling and a household name. Modigliani’s inside access allows him to follow O’Rourke on Election Day on Nov. 6, 2018 and capture his and his family's reaction to his narrow defeat to Cruz. Running With Beto premiered locally during this year's SXSW Film Festival and debuted May 28 on HBO and will screen at 3:20 p.m. June 20 and 6:45 a.m. June 23 on HBO Signature and at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, July 2 on HBO2. Running With Beto is available for streaming on HBO on Demand through July 2. Director David Modigliani previously directed the documentaries Crawford (2008) and 61 Bullets (2014). Note: This interview with Running With Beto director David Modigliani was conducted in March before Beto O’Rourke announced his 2020 campaign for President of the United States.
