Interview:
Sarah Polley,
writer/director,
"Women Talking"
Adapted from the 2018 novel by Miriam Toews, writer/director Sarah Polley's Women Talking focuses on the aftermath of a brutal series of drug-facilitated sexual assaults within a small male-dominated religious community that rejects modern society and social values. A group of surviving victims gather in secret in a hayloft to discuss the possible action they can take to protect themselves and vulnerable family members from the accused rapists within their community. Should they stay and fight? Or flee their closed community to seek refuge in an unfamiliar but potentially safer world? Women Talking's ensemble cast includes Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Judith Levy, Sheila McCarthy, and Frances McDormand. Ben Whishaw costars as the women's sole male ally. Women Talking, which premiered locally during this year's Austin Film Festival, opens Dec. 23 in Austin theaters. Sarah Polley previously directed the narrative features Away From Her and Take This Waltz and the documentary Stories We Tell. She also starred in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, eXistenZ, Go, The Weight of Water, The Claim, No Such Thing, the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead, and director Atom Egoyan's Exotica and The Sweet Hereafter. Aired: Dec. 20, 2022. Web sites: https://www.unitedartistsreleasing.com/women-talking/home/ https://www.facebook.com/WomenTalkingFilm/ |
