The Austin Film Society's April 2024 programming is highlighted by the series celebrating the work of the late Taiwanese filmmaker Edward Yang (A Brighter Summer Day, A Confucian Confusion, Mahjong, Yi Yi). The Handmade Films series features four films by the British production company founded by George Harrison and Denis O'Brien: Mona Lisa, Time Bandits, The Long Good Friday, and The Missionary. O'Brien's daughter Kristen will attend screenings to share stories about Handmade Films. The Classical Mexican Cinema selection Victims of Sin, the Texas-shot Family Portraits, and Show People, with Captain of Her Soul: The Life of Marion Davies author Lara Gabrielle in attendance, receive special screenings. New releases include Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World, The People's Joker, and Indigo Girls: It's Only Life After All. Retrospective screenings include Cemetery Man, The Last Metro, Onibaba, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, the Fright Club selection Onibaba, and the Lates selections The Dead Mother, Hotel, My Heart is That Eternal Rose, and Morvern Callar. The Queer Cinema: Lost & Found series brings No Skin Off My Ass to the AFS Cinema.
