New French Cinema Week 2022
Dedicated to new and emerging voices in narrative filmmaking, the Austin Film Society’s annual New French Cinema Week returns to the AFS Cinema for the first time since 2019. Running Nov. 10 through Nov. 13, the New French Cinema Week 2022 opens with Louda Ben Salah-Cazanas’ romantic drama The World After Us (Le Monde après nous) and continues with Lola Quivoron’s thriller Rodeo, Vincent Maël Cardona’s 1980-set political drama Magnetic Beats (Les magnétiques), and Hafsia Herzi’s family drama Good Mother (Bonne mère), and closes with documentary filmmaker Alice Diop’s feature debut Saint Omer. The series will also feature a screening of the “exquisite corpse” project Drawing by Drawing: Animated Non-Fiction Shorts Exchange From Angers and Austin Community College. The Austin Film Society programmed and presents the New French Cinema Week 2022 in partnership with the Premiers Plans Festival of Austin’s sister city of Angers, France.
