"Out of Darkness"
Formerly known as The Origin, director Andrew Cumming's chiller Out of Darkness follows a tribe of prehistoric humans as they arrive by boat to a far-off land that immediately proves inhospitality to these newcomers. As they struggle to survive off the land, the tribe encounters a mysterious force of evil that threats pick off each member one by one. Out of Darkness requires its ensemble cast, which is led by Safia Oakley-Green and Chuku Modu, to speak in an artificial language called Tola that linguist Daniel Andersson based on Arabic and Basque. Out of Darkness, which premiered locally during the 2023 Fantastic Fest as The Origin, opened Feb. 9 in theaters. Andrew Cumming makes his directorial debut with Out of Darkness.
