Directed by the Austin-based Layton Blaylock, the documentary Community First, A Home for the Homeless offers a tour of the 51-acre planned development by Mobile Loaves & Fishes in East Austin. Community First! Village provides affordable, permanent housing to the homeless and as well as creating a stable and supportive environment for its residents. In addition to RV homes and micro-homes that is currently home to more than 200 residents, Community First! Village includes a medical facility, a community market, an art studio, blacksmith and woodworking shop, and an outdoor movie theater. Residents pay rent and often work at Community First! Villagefor a dignified income. The documentary includes interviews with Mobile Loaves & Fishes co-founder Alan Graham, who believe housing is not enough to solve homeless, as well as residents and staff, some of whom also live at Community First! Community First, A Home for the Homeless will screen 10:45 a.m. March 9 at the Rollins Theatre at the Long Center, 9 p.m. March 11 at the AFS Cinema, and 12:30 p.m. March 16 at the Zach Theatre.
