Interview:
Simon Barrett,
screenwriter,
"The Guest"
Inspired by Halloween and The Terminator, the throwback thriller The Guest marks the latest collaboration between screenwriter Simon Barrett and director Adam Wingard following A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next, and their contributions to V/H/S and V/H/S/2. British actor Dan Steven shatters his foppish Downton Abby image as “David,” the charismatic former soldier who ingratiates himself into the family of a fallen comrade. While the Petersons welcome “David” with open arms, the handsome stranger’s ability to resolve family crisis using extreme methods hints at a dangerous past best buried. The Guest premiered locally at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and screen during last month’s Fantastic Fest in advance of its Sept. 26 Austin opening. Screenwriter Simon Barrett spoke during Fantastic Fest about The Guest and his plans with director Adam Wingard to Americanize Kim Ji-woon’s 2010 serial killer cat-and-mouse thriller I Saw The Devil.
