Shorts Showcase 2023
The Shorts Showcase 2023—a collaboration between initiating organization Indie Meme and the All Genders, Lifestyles and Identities Film Festival (aGLIFF), the Austin Asian American Film Festival, the Austin Jewish Film Festival, and the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival—features two selections made by Austin-based filmmakers: recent UT College of Fine Arts graduate Alexander Rosales’ Tejano Night and writer/director Maggie Burger’s Cleanse. Selected by the Cine Las Americas International Film Festival, Alexander Rosales’ pre-thesis short film Tejano Night focuses a young Mexican-American man’s cultural identity crisis. Played by Harold Fisch, Mijo feels disconnected from his heritage while visiting relatives in South Texas because he does not speak Spanish. Mijo accompanies his cousin to a bar, where the Tejano music stirs something in him he has not felt before. Selected by aGLIFF, Maggie Burger’s horror short Cleanse, chronicles the efforts of an energy healer to save a young woman from an unseen force of evil. But the root of the evil may not lie in the supernatural but in the woman’s relationship with her wife. The Shorts Showcase 2023 will be held at 3 p.m. Jan. 22 at the AFS Cinema. Aired: Jan. 17, 2023. Web sites: https://www.indiememe.org/shorts-showcase-2023 https://www.rosales.film/ |
