"Brave New Jersey"
A rural New Jersey town prepares to go to war against alien invaders in writer/director Jody Lambert's comedy Brave New Jersey. It's the night of Orson Welles' infamous Oct. 30, 1938 radio broadcast of War of the Worlds, and the New Jerseyans don't realize they are listening to a work of fiction. So they take up arms and prepare to face the Martians they believe are en route to destroy their town. Arrested Development's Tony Hale heads the cast as the mayor who tries to remain calm as everyone around expects the worse. He is joined by Heather Burns (Miss Congeniality) as the abandoned wife and mother he loves from afar; Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect) as a teacher who discovers her inner warrior; and Matt Oberg (Veep) as her fiancé. Writer/director Jody Holland previously co-wrote People Like Us. Brave New Jersey, which received its world premiere on Oct. 15 the Austin Film Festival, will next screen 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Alamo Drafthouse Village.
