Interview:
Justin Sherburn, composer,
"The Return of Draw Egan":
A Tribute to Ennio Moricone
Composer Justin Sherburn and writer Chad Nichols pay tribute to the legendarily Ennio Morricone by setting excerpts from his classic spaghetti western soundtracks to the 1916 silent film The Return of Draw Egan. Directed by its star, William S. Hart, The Return of Draw Egan tells the story of a wanted outlaw who, under an alias, is hired as the sheriff of a frontier town that needs cleaning up. Egan’s cozy new life is threatened by the arrival of a member of his old gang. Writer Chad Nichols (co-creator of The Intergalactic Nemesis; the Alamo Drafthouse signature series Foleyvision) and novelist Elizabeth Jackson rewrote the film’s dialogue cards to give it a funny, contemporary spin. Okkervil River's Justin Sherburn, who most recently scored the Austin-made documentaries Above All Else and Yakona, will perform excerpts from the soundtracks that turned Ennio Morricone into an icon. The Return to Draw Egan show will be held 6 p.m. March 1 and 8 at the North Door. Chad Nichols joins Justin Sherburn during this interview.
