Interview:
Emma Galbraith,
"Inbetween Girl"
Written and directed by Austin native Mei Makino, the Galveston-set coming-of-age romcom Inbetween Girl finds an Episcopalian private school student experiencing her sexual awakening while struggling with her parents’ divorce. Played by Austin native Emma Galbraith, the demure Angie unexpectedly enters into a sexual relationship with longtime crush Liam. The problem? Liam is dating the most popular girl in school, the Instagram influencer Sheryl. In addition to feeling guilty about sleeping with Liam, Angie begins to doubt herself and question her pursuit of art as a career when she meets the Stanford-bound daughter of her father’s new girlfriend. On top of this, Angie must deal with the casual and overt racism she endures for being the only Chinese-American student at school. Inbetween Girl, which premiered during the 2021 SXSW Film Festival, is now available for digital and on-demand viewing. With interiors shot in Austin and exteriors shot in Galveston pre-pandemic, Inbetween Girl represents the feature film acting debut of Emma Galbraith, a Chinese-American Austin native currently studying at Occidental College in L.A. She is now in rehearsals for Man of God, which runs May 10-June 19 at the Geffen Playhouse in L.A. Aired: May 4, 2022.
