"Mission Control:
The Unsung Heroes of Apollo"
The names of the Americans who were first in space and to walk the moon are forever etched in the history books. But what about those who staffed NASA's Mission Control Center in Houston? Directed by David Fairhead, Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo pays tribute to the flight controllers and support personnel who managed the space program. The documentary recalls the highs and lows of NASA's manned space flights of the 1960s and 1970, including the Apollo 1 fatal cabin fire, the Apollo 11 Moon landing and the Apollo 13 crisis. The documentary features interviews with retired NASA flight director Gene Kranz, who was portrayed by Ed Harris in Apollo 13, and astronauts Jim Lovell and Gene Cernan. Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo premiered locally during the SXSW Film Festival. The documentary will open April 14 at the Violet Crown Cinema and also will be available on VOD. Flight controller Jerry Bostick, who is featured in the documentary, will participate in a post-screening Q&A after the 7 p.m. April 14 showing. Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo will receive a special premiere at 6 p.m. April 11 at the Space Station Houston. Director David Fairhead edited the Gene Cernan documentary The Last Man on the Moon, which was produced by Mission Control: The Unsung Heroes of Apollo screenwriter/producer Keith Haviland (above right). Director David Fairhead joins Producer Keith Haviland during this interview.
