![]() For its fourth season, which aired in 2018, Fear the Walking Dead underwent a soft reboot that included significant cast changes and the relocation of production from Baja California, Mexico, to Austin in late 2017. The fifth season of AMC’s Texas-based Walking Dead spinoff, which premiered June 2, finds the small group survivors of the zombie apocalypse continuing to fend off threats from both the living and the undead. Co-showrunners/executive producers Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg are also making concerted efforts to further directly tie Fear the Walking Dead to The Walking Dead with the crossover casting of Austin Amelio’s former Savior Dwight and a subplot involving the mysterious Three Rings Group that transported Rick Grimes to safety during his Walking Dead exit in November 2018. Fear the Walking Dead showrunners/executive producers Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg attended this year's ATX Television Festival with cast members Rubén Blades, Lennie James, Maggie Grace, Alexa Nisenson, and Karen David. Rubén Blades, who plays grieving father Daniel Salazar, returns to Fear the Walking Dead after sitting out last season. Lennie James, who plays Morgan Jones, transitioned last season from The Walking Dead to Fear the Walking Dead. Maggie Grace, best known for her roles in the TV series Lost and the film franchise Taken, joined Fear the Walking Dead last season as journalist Althea Szewczek-Przygocki. Alexa Nisenson plays Charlie, the young girl who killed original cast member Frank Dillane’s Nick Clark in the fourth season of Fear the Walking Dead but is now is part of the group that’s led by Nick’s sister Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Fear the Walking Dead newcomer Karen David plays former nuclear power worker Grace. Showrunners/executive producers Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg and cast members Rubén Blades, Lennie James, Maggie Grace, Alexa Nisenson, and Karen David spoke with the media during the ATX Television Festival about the fifth season of Fear the Walking Dead as well as shooting the series in Austin.
